At a Polish Institute of International Affairs (PISM) debate, former President Aleksander Kwaśniewski said that he is afraid of Ukraine adopting a Polish model to become a sovereign state.
The debate was held on the occasion of presenting the book, Democratic Transitions, Conversations with World Leaders.
Kwaśniewski and three other Polish politicians discussed Ukraine’s possibility for a successful transition to democracy.
The former president emphasised that Ukraine is not homogenous enough to follow the transition with the Polish model.
Additionally, Kwaśniewski and former member of the European Parliament, Paweł Zalewski, argue Ukraine’s need to decentralise its state to help build a stronger civic society.
