On Friday Wroclaw officially starts its year as the European Capital of Culture.
Friday marks Wroclaw's first day as the European Capital of Culture of 2016. Wroclaw along with the Spanish city San Sebastian are honored to hold the title. The city in western Poland celebrates the opening of the ECC for three days. The main commencement ceremony, the Awakening, showcases four spirits of the city waking up.
“The story that we have developed in the past couple of years is the idea of four spirits of Wroclaw waking up at four o’clock on the 17th of January,” said Christopher Baldwin, the performance curator of the Wroclaw ECC 2016.
